Default 5-4 OT win! Monahan hattrick, Frolik OT winner!

Good to stick with it and get a win, and nice to see them take full advantage of the PP!

However, like many have said, our D-core is struggling right now, especially Brodie. Those who say give him a rest of some sort are likely on to something. Seems like it’s more mental than physical right now.

Overall, the D is rarely physically engaged-something Loubo referenced on the radio broadcast-and otherwise are often scrambly in their positioning. On one play in the 3rd, for example, both Gio & Dougie tied up the same man in front, leaving Voracek wide open to the side of the next for several seconds. If Smith doesn’t find the loose puck and pounce, that’s the GWG.

Having said this, when (not “if”) the D figures it out, this team is going to be scary. I know people are concerned that the top line is doing most of the scoring, but to me, this is mostly positive; imagine what it’d be like if they too were battling consistency right now...and Monny Johnahan are both on fire, with Ferland capably filling out the top line. They’re exciting to watch.

It’s frustrating sometimes right now, but Smith was brought it to buy us time, in some measure. We have a winning record in spite of the inconsistencies. All signs point to the team gelling, getting better positionally on D (which will improve the PK) and becoming a solid, well-rounded group. And when that happens, well, like Loubo also says: “Lookout”.
