If that was the offense, then the officials complete blew the call.
They should have handed him a 10 minute misconduct.
Flames should be contacting the league, and asking for a clarification on the 5 minute major for spearing....

In the mayhem I guarantee Witkowski was yelling about getting speared. Still shouldn't make the call without seeing it, but it would have sounded pretty convincing based on how he came back onto the ice in a rage. Also the game was over and it was a way to get rid of Tkachuk so he doesn't start anything else.
Again I don't agree with the call, I can just understand how it was made. Tkachuk takes a quick stride towards him when they were near centre and he looks like he wants to tap him then, but holds off... and then has enough. I can see the league just wanting to talk to him about that play and how it was not acceptable, and maybe a fine occurs. Zero chance he gets a game.
On Mantha... I can't imagine that if he was in the middle of the ice, on top of Hamonic and continued to throw punches for as long as he did, that he wouldn't be getting a suspension or fine of some kind. So he takes advantage of a situation where he can't be stopped by an official and he is laying into a guy he has 3 inches and 20 pounds on. Complete BS. One of the dirtier things I've seen. Worse than a bad hit in my mind as there was ample opportunity to stop punching a guy when he falls through the boards. Just a complete garbage play from a player I really like.
