I think it's a couple of things from the CFL's point of view:
(a) They really don't seem to want to go head to head with the Stanley Cup Finals (though we all know that 90% of the time a Cup Finals game is on a Monday/Wednesday/Saturday so it wouldn't be hard to schedule around).

a) they should have nothing to worry about. Unless it's a Canadian team you want to win(Flames) or a cdn team you want to lose(all of those other scrubs) most people aren't watching anymore. I won't watch a Sharks/Panthers final nor a Preds/Canes final, and haven't watched the past 4 stanley cup finals. the NHL is just super boring if you are not invested in a team.
b) that doesn't make sense as of right now they play the whole 2 months in the summer anyways.
Start it up a month earlier. This is prob the most no brainer move for the league.
