I think Hamonics problems come from him not fully adjusting to the cheating of the forwards. Flames wingers always blow the defensive zone early, leaving the defenseman to make a difficult pass to forwards who usually at the other blue line.
This seems to be a remnant of The Hartley era that was implemented due to Johnny Gaudreau. The problem is that all the wingers seem to do it when really s should only be Johnny who should be allowed to.
There have been many times where Hamonic has won pick battles in the defensive end only to turn the puck over because he's had to make a pass to a forward through a couple of opposition forecheckers.
I think being able to make a high level stretch pass is something Flames defenseman have to be able to do as the forward are always leaving the zone early to stretch the opposition defense. Hamonic is going to have to make this adjustment fast.
