I have also noticed a perplexing inconsistency between what counts as scoring chances and what seems to me
should count. Is there a breakdown in the numbers you are using as to what is and is not a "scoring chance"?

"The Flames looked to be in for a long night at one point but then they bottled up the defensive zone, and closed the gap between the forwards and the defense allowing the defense to jump on the Devil’s quick forwards in the neutral zone without issue. You’d hope the Flames aren’t a slow team, and they showed that with their push back."

I would agree with Eric Francis in the broadcast who said that the Flames are "average" in terms of team speed. But I would also suggest that they seem to be well constructed to counter and beat very fast teams. It will be interesting to see as the season progresses, and they may yet continue to struggle with larger, "heavier" teams (i.e. the Blues), if the Flames can continue to neutralize speed this effectively this should make them pretty successful this year.
