Narrative aside this comes down to judging a person off their moral compass.
Many adults people don't need to wait for society to adjust the standard to know that praying and interacting with a 14 year old in a vulnerable situation like that is not right. Some people are able to think for themselves and understand the difference between what is in another's best intentions, and what is taking advantage.
So I would skip the conversation about what should and shouldn't be considered illegal and whether Spacey is a criminal or just a scumbag.
The root is ultimately the same thing, and Mr. Spacey deserves the floodgate of sewage being thrown at him for his actions (even when considering the era) and the reply.
