The Flames were a bottom 5 team with 77pts. Gulutzan takes that team to 94pts the next season. For a team that was slated to draft top 5 to go to the playoffs is success. 1 team out of 31 win the cup and if the only way to be successful for each team is win the cup then there are 30 unsuccessful coaches every year.
It can’t be defined that way for every team. The Capitals forni stance are basically at the point they at minimum need to make the ECF to have that be a successful year. I think the Flames getting the the second round would likely be considered a successful year.
