I checked in for Jagr’s first game as a Flame and actually ended up turning it off before the end. The brand of hockey Gulutzan has them playing is extremely dull and it feels like the Flames have to work twice as hard as other teams just to compete. If they make a mistake it feels like it’s punished every time, while the Flames (especially the bottom 6) seem to whiff on those same chances. It’s frustrating and predictable.
Whether it’s coaching or just an amazingly mediocre roster (I think it’s a bit of both), I really just don’t find the entertainment value in watching this team tread water in that wildcard territory. So on those nights when I do tune in I usually don’t stick around for the whole game and find other ways to spend my time.
Oh, and the reffing in this league is a complete joke and that’s probably a large part of the problem as well. I’ve grown weary of the nightly parades to the sin bin.
