(My opinion/stream of consciousness) Regardless of whether or not we think he is or isn't a good coach, this is likely his make or break year with the team. The Flames have gone all in, giving up picks and making moves (which I don't believe are done yet) to get this team deep into the playoffs. If they falter during the season for an extended period or come up short even if they do make the playoffs (bounced in round one, swept etc) then that's it. He's likely done.

My bigger concern, and I've discussed this before, is the Flames ownership seemingly unwilling to spend money on a proven or top tier coach. If Gulutzan doesn't succeed, there is no guarantee the next coach will be anyone with any long term experience or NHL success either. For that reason I'd much rather see Gulutzan succeed. We've seen spurts of success and cohesive play with him at the helm. I'd prefer they generate and maintain stability at the coaching position(s).
