Not to discount their effort in that game, since I never watched, it's just that your comment reminded me of something I had looked into this morning.
By pts%, the top 5 teams in the league:
SF/GP - 32.3
SA/GP - 33.5
By pts%, the bottom 5 teams in the league:
SF/GP - 35.1
SA/GP - 32.5
Do we worry too much about shots, both for and against? We keep hearing that we're allowing too many shots against for what is considered a top defense in this league, yet the Flames only allow 1.3 SA/GP more (34.8) than the average of the top 5 teams. The Flames allow exactly as many shots against as the Lightning, a team considered by many to be a Stanley Cup contender this year.
This post would have been better served in a thread on the subject, but I glossed over a couple pages and didn't see a suitable thread for it. Meh.
