I know you're trying your best to manipulate those arbitrary numbers you have selected, but at the end of the day Monahan isn't in Tavares' stratosphere. He is superior to Monahan in every facet besides height and weight. Better goal scorer, better passer, better skater, better hands, better on the cycle. The stats, eye test and analytics all back it up.
When you have to ability to acquire a franchise C (because lord knows we'll never draft top 3) you have to jump on it. Now it sounds like I am dumping on Monahan, which I really am not trying to. I love the kid and he was the first youthful bright spot on this team in a very long which is why Flames fans hold him so dear to their hearts, but he's not a cup caliber 1C. I'm sorry, but to win a cup we'll need one of those.
