Ref's hand was already up. Brouwer didn't just rob us of a power play - his actions allowed them to continue with a man advantage. But for Smith's stellar play, he could have cost us two points.

You left out the fact the Flames would have also went into the OT on a PP. Sure, Brouwer stepping up is good and any Flames fan wants him to be the player he can be - and it may be a legitimate argument such a play inspires the team and helps momentum more than the special teams situation - but this situation in particular offered an advantage.
I think either perspective can agree to look at what Brouwer did and hope that it's part of an upward trend for #36.
