Smith hs masked a lot of deficiencies so far this season, the biggest of which has been an awful transition game. Once LA started skating, they owned the neutral zone and the balance of play as a result. The Flames need to work on completing passes and on being in the right position to receive breakout passes.
Actual defensive zone defending has been good, but too many times, a defender will get a puck but have no breakout options and then he'll give it away. Some can't be helped (Bartkowski) but the other 5 can do better than we've seen so far.
The PP zone entry is good, but is way too predictable. It needs another option, or at least the threat of another option.
Other than that, the team seems pretty good.
