The thing that makes me sad about the Flames franchise is that we can never get both a solid goaltender and a solid skating line up at the same time. For years we had a workhorse goalie in Kipper. Yet the team in front of him played like crap. The past couple seasons we've had a good team. Yet the goaltending sucks. Even in the 90s, goaltending woes ruined decent teams upfront.
Now, we have a good group of skaters. And it appears Smith is a good goalie. I'm not just saying that because he was good last night. He looked like the guy in Phoenix. Calm, cool, playing the puck, and even showed some grit.
It would be oh so sweet if good goaltending and a good group of skaters could finally combine forces and become a great team.
