So, just now listening to an outrageously dumb discussion on Vancouver's new sports station, Sportsnet 650.
It so happens that the Vancouver Canucks considered making an offer to Jaromir Jagr, GOAT, at the start of UFA in July. The radio hosts mused about whether Canucks fans would have preferred signing Jagr or signing Thomas Vanek. The consensus between the pair was that while Jagr provides a novelty to the franchise likely to result in higher ticket sales and jersey revenue, Vanek is ultimately the better acquisition because come time for the Trade deadline he is more likely to net a better return for the rebuilding Canucks. The assertion was that Vanek is a much better bet to be a contributing factor in the playoffs because Jagr is 45-years-old, and is slow.
As much as I am excited about tonight, I can hardly wait for the home opener on Saturday.
