They're really stretching out the major plots in the background. I don't actually mind that, as the show is meant to be more about one off adventures. The larger ongoing plots are really just a bonus for people who watch the show in its entirety. The only thing that gets me about them not progressing the Evil Morty plot is that we may have to wait 1.5+ years for the next season.
