Tonights episode was better then last week. Mainly because Jason Isaac's is a great choice as a captain. He always plays great characters with hidden agenda's.
I thought that Sonequa Martin-Jones was better tonight, maybe because she was more relaxed in her role.
Its certainly a different feel.
I didn't mind the Discovery's design, I like the fact that its not a pretty ship and looks like a ship of war.
I also liked that the Helms Woman was back from the first episode with obvious injuries and in her small on screen appearance stared hate filled darts at Michael.
The room mate thing was awkward, and its clear that the room mate is supposed to have ADD or something, but it felt so unnecessarily over played as the "Hey I'm annoying and talk to much and snore and stuff" moments
I didn't really connect with Stamets, and not because he's promoted as an openly gay character. But because he was whiny and annoying and weak.
It was nice seeing Rekha Sharma again as she was such a strong character in BattleStar Galactica.
Ok just some thoughts
Overall it was an improvement over last weeks opening episodes, the space scenes weren't as busy so we could admire some of the ship views in space.
