Just saw the two episodes.
Some parts were okay. The acting is wooden as a door stop and the characters to this point are not compelling.
I thought Sonequa Martin was mediocre on TWD, and is even more so on this.
The main thing with Star Trek and what makes it good were the personalities of the characters. Enterprise's characters were all wooden and the show was garbage. On Voyager, the only non wooden character was the Doctor and was the only good part of the show by in large. DS9 all of the characters save Jake were interesting in their own right and the show was one of the three good shows. TNG obviously was much the same as was TOS. In order to tell Trek stories effectively, you need characters that are compelling as people. Not wooden amalgams.
T'Kumva or whatever his name was, was the least wooden of the characters and he's gone now.
The Klingons look really stupid on top of all of that. When you have 30+ years of one way of doing an Alien race's appearance, you don't screw with that just for the sake of being different. I did not feel like I was watching Star Trek when watching the scenes with the Klingons. It would have looked stupid had they been a different species and not one as high profile as the Klingons.
As for the story, it could be interesting depending on where they go. I do not have high hopes. It looked nice though.
I'd give it a 2/10 and that's mostly for the visuals.
