LOL. He can't trade Duchene for just draft picks, not sure why this is ever brought up. He needs somebody back that is NHL ready or close to NHL ready. Draft picks often don't make a difference for 5 years. Sakic cannot trade Duchene for assets that are 5 years out, its a total no go. They're already halfway through a rebuild. They aren't looking to contend 7 years from now, he has to start turning that franchise around ASAP.
It makes no sense to trade one of your top players for a defensive dman (Hamonic.) And it makes no sense to trade one of your top players for draft picks when you're halfway through a rebuild. Lets use a little common sense when we're evaluating trades. Lots of the stuff I've seen suggested makes absolutely no sense for COL. Two 1sts and a two 2nds is not what he's looking for, its not what I'd be looking for if I were him. It makes absolutely no sense. People keep saying, "yeah but they're rebuilding." They're not starting a rebuild from scratch. They need to find assets that are around the age of their current 'A' level assets. Landeskog is turning 25 I think, MacKinnon is 22. Rantanen is early 20's. Obviously if you're trading Duchene you're looking for at least one major asset in their early 20's to mid 20's. You need to support the core you're building around.
