I can't really rule anything out, because I'm wondering if it was just a cutthroat or bull trout with weird pigmenting. But I really think it had to be a trout, the shape of its head was wrong for a whitefish. Definitely no white tips on the fins, and this was a decently large fish (~10 inches I would say). So if it was a bull that big, you'd think its fin markings would be clear. The water was shallow and clear, so I had a pretty good look at it.
Upon further reflection, I'm wondering if perhaps it was a Brook Trout. I just wasn't expecting a brook trout in this location. Also, I don't see many Brook Trout usually, so I wouldn't feel very confident ID'ing one in the water.
