For what it is worth, this is the first time I've heard Ken King allude that the Flames are now a revenue receiver from the league. I'll be honest, I don't actually know what this means so if someone knows more about how this works, I am very curious.
The problem I have with statements like that, is the Flames refuse to open up their books to public scrutiny. I have no idea how to interpret a statement like that.
Using the Forbes valuations, the Flames were 10th in the league in operating income at $18 million last year (based on revenue of $121 million).
The Flames are middle market team. I think is misleading to suggest we are top market. But it also misleading to suggest we are small market. There are almost 1.4 million people in the Calgary metro area. Rich, relatively young and mostly hockey fans.
