Exactly. Every team should do this, but especially the Flames, given what Smith can do with the puck. There should be no instance where the puck leaves your stick in OT except to make a pass or shoot, and no instance where you're trying to force a pass or a shot because there's no good lane. If there's nothing available or you need a change, give it back to Smith and let him make things into a 4 on 3.

Warning, this is a Canucks highlight, but it's the easiest recent example of what should be done far, far more often.
