On the actual topic at hand -- I hate to say it, but I agree with everything Devil'sAdvocate has said. Opinion-wise, I also think that organised religion is the cause of a lot of strife in the world, but there's no way to eliminate it. Even though the idea will never work, I commend Elton John for suggesting such a bold statement on banning organised religion.
On the correlation between homosexuality and genetics.. That point is moot. Say they do irrefutably find a link, proving that genetics cause homosexuality, and that homosexuality is not a choice. Will that stop these churches from hating gays? Will proven scientific fact change the minds of deeply religious devouts? Hell No! These are the same religious devouts who don't want Evolution taught in schools, even though it's generally accepted in the scientific community.
