You are better off dropping them off with a scrap metal place. They will take appliances for free (unless they need to be drained of refrigerant then it is $15).

Agreed. I dropped of a bunch of stuff at Calgary Metal Recycling, no issues at all. City dump was going to charge $20 and the guy there told me about the recycling place.
