It was a head scratcher right from the start, but only one of the sides has to take the blame now. The Palace decision makers will probably sign someone like Roy Hodgson, revert to the old style and pat themselves on their backs when they manage to survive again. De Boer will have to make a step back in order to save his managerial career.
