the whole thing was bound to fail anyway. One the one hand, you have a team that's had 8 managers in 5 years, constantly plays for relegation and relies heavily on old-school tactics. On the other hand, you have a manager who strongly believes in Total Voetbal and has a completely different idea as to how to set-up a team. If you make that call, you have to support him, be patient and give him time ... and that's not happening at Palace (again, 8 managers in 5 years).
It was a head scratcher right from the start, but only one of the sides has to take the blame now. The Palace decision makers will probably sign someone like Roy Hodgson, revert to the old style and pat themselves on their backs when they manage to survive again. De Boer will have to make a step back in order to save his managerial career.
