Was listening to Maddow yesterday and she mentioned a couple of astonishing things.
First, when there was a chemical explosion a few years ago, they only law they changed was
removing the law requiring companies to disclose where and how much dangerous chemicals they were storing to the public. I'm sure that does lots to protect the public.
And she also mentioned that in Texas not only do they not have fire code regulations for buildings (i.e. requiring buildings to put in sprinklers, etc), but that there's actually a law that prohibits any municipality or county from creating those regulations! So Houston couldn't legally create a building code that makes its buildings safer from fire. Bizarre.
