Having NOT read any leaks, this is my guess at how this plays out.

In the big battle that is coming (I'm guessing it'll end up at Dubrovnik Kings Landing) Zombie dragon is kicking arse and it looks dire. Jon and the Night King end up having the traditional boss vs boss fight. During the fight, and just before zombie dragon is about to win the battle, Jon, in a "sacrifice to kill the opponent move", ends up taking an icicle to the chest in order to get close enough to the NK to pull the magic dragonglass out of him which the tree kids had put there centuries ago. NK turns into regular old Azot Ahai and poof, zombie dragon and all the zombette's are turned to dust. Jon saves the day with his last dying breath.

Bran and NK are one in the same or different versions of the same being. Sam realizes this and right before the NK is about to win the battle, kills Bran, and poof, zombie dust. Replace Sam with Jon if you desire. My problem with this theory is Bran dying wouldn't really be that bittersweet of an ending which GRRM has hinted at.
