In terms of basically everything they are pretty much the same for day to day living.
Calgary has a better location for sure.
Denver is not a great comparable for Calgary besides proximity to mountains. It has twice the pop. That means four major sports teams and way more entertainment options. Not to mention all the culture differences from being an American city.
If you want to believe Calgary and Denver share more similarities than Edmonton and Calgary, knock yourself out.
You can live in whatever reality you choose.
