I guess if we're just re-defining terms to mean whatever we want them to mean, sure, but generally when I hear "mainstream", it refers to "the outlets that everyone recognizes and knows about and a lot of people tune into", thus having a significant effect on the zeitgeist. Which has always been distinct from the types of people who hold political influence at the highest levels. That's an easier problem to fix, one hopes.
