I said this before, but beyond setting up for Bran to reveal more later, I think the scene had two purposes.

1. Establish that he's not in control of his power yet. He mentions everything being in pieces.
2. Establish that he's not the same anymore. Kid basically has PTSD. He hardly identifies as human. I think this is foreshadowing him going full Three Eyed Raven (crazy man living underground in a tree) or going full on warg and just straight up moving his consciousness into a dragon.
