I really don't get all the complaining. I feel all the characters are being true to their developmental arcs. Also, the rapid pace and battles seeming trivial just reinforces the sense of what Jon expressed in saying they are all children playing at games while the real conflict is yet to come. There is a sense of build up in this rush, it's just that the pieces are being hurried into place for the major drama of the battles against the white walkers.
