The arrogance of their fan base and the Oiler fans is unbelievable. I'm seeing predictions of at the very least a Stanley Cup finals appearance and a Cup this year.
I read a column that showed teams that trended up and trended down, and I can't fatham how a team that's missing one of their top 4 until Jan and traded Eberle for Strome is trending up. If anything they're treading water.
Frankly I think that this is going to be a tough season for the Oilers, JP has to make a massive jump to their top 6 this year, but he wasn't that good in the AHL last year.
They have to have everything going perfectly like last year.
Personally I think that a jump from 70 points to 103 is a unsustainable leap, its equivalent to a guy going from 5 goals to 20 goals in a season because his shooting percentage went from 8 to 16%, its just not a normal trend of improvement.
I wish the Oilers luck, but frankly I don't think that Chia did anything to improve that team or build up its depth this year. The only thing he's doing is the same thing that he did in Boston which was to create a impossible salary structure.
I'm not predicting that the Oilers will miss the playoffs this year, but even if they come back to the mean between 70 and 103 which is is 16 points roughly and they finish at 87 points, they miss the playoffs.
I expect that the Oilers will struggle at the start of this year. Sekera's injury is going to hurt especially if they have to give Nurse who has the hockey IQ of a Apple top 4 minutes.
They'll be facing teams that see the Oilers as a threat this year as well.
I think that the Oiler fans deserve a drop back out of the playoffs, they clearly haven't gained any humility over the past decade or so.
