I hate that dumb is spelled with the B when referring to something idiotic.
Dumb means unable to speak and should not have any references to lack of smarts.
I speculate that the word used like this has its origins in a shortened form of dummy. A dummy is a puppet of sorts and obviously lacks intelligence. Dumb should be spelled dum. Of course if I did that, I would probably be called dumb. /rant
