There really isn't any such thing as a loser point. Those always existed as ties. Rather they added a gimmick point for the team that wins the S/O or 3on3.
Under old school standings Edmonton would have finished:
37-26-19
and Calgary:
32-33-17
That's a bigger difference when you remove the parts of the game that aren't really hockey.

Not at all to get into the whole Oilers no Good discussion but I tend to agree that records in regulation is important. I mentioned this a couple of times during the year but a couple of posters weren't happy with me about it. Yes teams should be rewarded for being good at 3 and 3 and shootouts, since they're in the rules. But since those don't exist in the playoffs, points from those parts of the game are a bit of a mirage.
I kind of agree that the loser point is the wrong thing on which to focus, vs. the gimmick point.
Wrong place for this I suppose but I'd like to see the Flames improve that record in regulation rather dramatically.
