I think ferland will do great on the gaudreau-Monahan line this season. But Iginla will be a great option if that line (or any line really) needs a change at any point in the season. He's the perfect complimentary player for a team ready to take the next step.

This team is poised to improve next year but to me it still feels like it needs another spark to become a contender. I don't think any of the other free agent wingers that people are talking about (Williams, Vrbata, etc.) bring that element. I think Iginla can bring that along with depth production. I don't think any of those other guys will bring the excitement/momentum that Iginla will bring.
Contrary to what his recent regular season and playoff performances has proven.

Denial of stats.

What's the point of having the 3M line, all those defensemen, a goalie who can headman the puck like Smith etc if it doesn't allow you to sign offensive specialists?

Jarome is a winger. I don't care how bad he is defensively. Shelter him. Give him nights off. He wouldn't be here to win a Selke (last time a winger won this award was 2002 - Jere Lehtinen), he's here for his 20 years of experience, toughness, leadership, instincts, and his ability to finish.

Is he going to play 20 minutes a night with the top line? Of course not.

Can he pot 15 working the left point on the #1PP unit? Tell me why not.
Iginla went from playing on Colorado's third line, where he played himself, to being plunked on Kopitar's line. Yes, Iginla scored some points, but more importantly, he was a big defensive liability and made his line worse. Once Kopitar had Iginla added to his line his production faded and his line was scored on at even strength at twice the frequency it did in the first 63 games of the season. Coincidence?

Iginla was trending to -30 on the Avalanche, playing sheltered minutes. On the Kings he was trending to -39, when they tried to play him a semi-regular shift. How can anyone deny these stats and performance?

Shouldn't be expensive at this point as well.
Dammit. I want Iggy back. Jeromer, you better be right.
The reality of of Iginla's face-off prowess. In 61 games with Colorado, Iginla took 19 face-offs. Yes, he won 12 of them. But in LA, he took 11 in 19 games and won only 4 of them.

I can go on and on because there are plenty more examples in this thread alone.

I get being a fan. I get loving the guy, because Iginla was a great guy and a model player for much of his time in Calgary. What i don't get is ignorance of the obvious. Iginla is done, even as a role player. He doesn't play the complete game and is a defensive liability for any line he plays on. If any other player, with a recent performance trend and stats of this level, were being discussed there would be instant outrage. Iginla just doesn't make sense in any shape or fashion.
