To be quite honest, doing so would probably have been one of the less expensive examples of wasting money for cheap political points we've seen in a while.
That said, I am one of the 9% on the right who supports this outcome - even if one might wonder if the settlement itself could have been lower. We don't get to be complicit in the torture of one of our citizens without consequence.
