The last thing we need is Iggy teaching our players how not to play the system, ignore defense, and rather cherry pick at center ice like he did in his last 5 years with the Flames. Iggy's "country club" clique mentality held back our progress for many years.

He undermined countless coaches by refusing to buy into the team system, preferring the aforementioned cherry picking, which lead to his early season slumps. It was only after a long drought that he would relent around mid to late November, finally start buying into the system, and then he his scoring would return.

No thanks! This is Gio's team, and they don't need the distraction.
Not this BS narrative again. The reason the team couldn't progress during those years was talent. The team was dreadful at drafting for years up on years and couldn't supplement the aging core with the type of young talent that it has now.

To blame the woes of the team on the guy who gave all the best years of his career and his best performances in this jersey is completely off the mark.

Also, if Gio is so fragile that bringing in an aging veteran is going to shake his captaincy the Flames have bigger problems (he's not that fragile, nor has Iginla ever been one to create controversy in a dressing room).
