I could see the Canucks take him. They aren't exactly strong on the backend. Spoon is a Vancouver native and played for Travis Green in Portland.
Spoon sounds like he had a good season in the AHL last year and it also sounds like one of the main reasons he wasn't called up was due to maintaining the asset (limiting his games so he wouldn't need waivers last year or something like that).
If Spoon plays well in camp, I could see the team try to keep him as the 7th and send Bartkowski down. I think that is the ideal situation for the Flames but it is up to Spoon.
