Its funny, when these contract talks first started, I think I figured it would end up at 12 million bucks a year if they wanted to buy free agency, then I think 12.5 or 13 I think it gets fuzzy for me cause I'm old.

Oiler fans were harping on less then 10 million bucks.

Suddenly the rumors come out of 13.5 and those rumors really clouded things up.

Suddenly instead of 12 or in the Oilers fans cases 9 to 11. It was 13.25.

Then Connor signs for 12.5.

And the illusion is on that he signed a discount.

He didn't Oiler fans were convinced that it was an 11 million dollar deal and anything above was greedy, but the 13.25 rumor has them all saying "OMG what a discount". Connor gave back to win a cup with the Oilers.

Flames fans were betting on between 12 and 13, suddenly because of the 13.25 rumor and the settling at 12.5 its now, OMG Connor took a discount its a small one, but he's a great kid.

Bleah, he didn't take a paycut, he got more then Flames fans and even Oiler fans thought he'd get.

The 13.25 rumor is this great illusion and bail out position for the Oilers and Connors camp.

Even so, a $750,000 per year haircut doesn't help the Oilers that much.

Anything over 20 million for Draisaitl and McDavid is equivalent to putting a pillow over Grandma's face. In the long term, it will make the Oilers even more unsustainable then they are now. McDavid will probably waste his prime years in Edmonton, surrounded by mediocrity.
