It took awhile, since nobody was worth resetting the market, but now you're seeing the real impact of contract limits. Ten years ago, this would've been a 15 year contract with a cap hit of $7M. Now teams have to pay market value, or sell themselves on the idea that they got a discount because McDavid didn't want his number to start with a 13.
