I don't think there is anyway to associate firefox with MSN Messenger. Microsoft has made it so it always uses IE even if something else is the default browser.

There may be some software package that will change that but I don't know of any.

I also don't recommend uninstalling IE but leave it on the computer and just use firefox (or whatever browser) as the primary.
