Those deals tend to happen more for defenceman. Teams get a guy who has just finished his entry level deal and has about 90-120 games in the NHL. They give a better salary for the first couple years to lock guys down for 5-6 years knowing they should develop and get better. Lots of guys like Larson/Hamonic/Josi/Ellis even Brodie as comparable.
Forwards don't tend to work that way as they tend to produce at a peak rate earlier. The only potential Jarnkrok I see in this group is Lazar. You could try getting him for 6 years at 12 million and hope he becomes a 15 goal 40 point guy in there. I don't think a guy like Bennett is too interested in 22 million over 6 years...but maybe he would be.
I still believe that teams are fine to pay their good players good salaries when they can earn them. Every time you get a Roman Josi you just end up giving too much to Mike Ribiero.
