I think a great comparable is Phil Kessel.
Signed for big money on a Toronto team that wasnt getting it done, eventually gets traded to Pittsburgh and is now sitting on a pair of Cups.
Oh....and he gets paid. Best of both worlds.
So fast forward 5 years when Connor has had to attend a few draft parties and he decides hes had enough, there will be suitors.
Now, some of the uninitiated and unintelligent will say:
"He was only at those draft parties because of his greed, if hed taken less then management could have built a winner around him!!"
Really? In what universe has Oilers management shown themselves in any way capable of building a winner without ping-pong balls? That team was built by the NHL's ping-pong ball machine.
And even if they had, thats not his problem. Believe it or not Management's job is to create a winning team for their Organization, not just for Connor.
Connor's job is to play well and if he plays well he gets paid well, Management's job is to assemble a collection of people expected to play well, not complaining that the Phenom that was gifted to them by the Almighty NHL Ping-Pong Ball Machine is preventing them from winning by playing well.
Its like a self-fulfilling/self-defeating prophecy.
