Maybe. But Bennett is realistically in a very different category than any of the RFAs who have re-signed with their current teams.
This raises the question of who would be a good RFA comparable player to Bennett in his next contract negotiation?
Players like Nick Bjugstad and Vincent Trochek from Florida, or Alex Galchenyuk from Montreal all had more productive years than Bennett when they signed their $3–4 m bridge deals. Kyle Turris signed his second two-year deal coming off a 25 point season, and it was for only $1.4 m. I think Bennett is likely faced with the reality that he will need to take less than a lot of his peers and on a shorter term in hopes that he can earn a bigger payday like some of these players on his next contract.
