i liked the move yesterday, and after hearing the goalie analytic guy on the fan this morning, i like the move even more.
Key points he made:
- He was asked to change his playing style with the canes and it didn't seem to work at all for him
- the style he played wtih the canucks is quite close to smith, so the team won't have to change their play depending on who's playing goal that night
not to mention Gulutzan has a history with lack when he was a serviceable goalie with the canucks.
At the acquisition cost, not sure what's not to like here.... especially since he's pencilled in as the backup. Gulutzan did mention that he thinks the target number for lack would be somewhere in the 20s as far as games played goes (barring injuries, hot/cold streak by either goalie,etc).
