Saying BUF got the two best players would be to ignore the contracts. I'd take Foligno over either of the bad contracts. Ennis and Pominville are both on god awful contracts. Foligno and Scandella are the two valuable pieces in the deal. Is it surprising Scandella could only return Foligno and a million in cap savings? Yeah I guess. Don't try and paint Pominville's 5.6 million for two years as a positive acquisition though
Pominville had 47 points last year and is still a very productive player. Good advanced stats as well, he was 9th in the NHL in pts per 6 minutes and was a driver for them.

He is maybe about $1.5M overpaid but I feel like negative value is a bit harsh. People are lining up to sign Justin Williams at age 36 with his 48 points last year.

Would much rather have his 47 points for $5.6M then have Ennis and his 13 points for $4.6M. Ennis holds way more negative value here IMO.

Foligno is a good 3rd liner but nothing special and needs a new contract. And Scandella should be worth way more than him alone.

In terms of impact to the team next year Buffalo got the two best players - and Pominville's contract is irrelevant since Buffalo got rid of an even worse contract to acquire him.
