Why would they care, this isn't the 1950's where the players were working class hero's that lived in their communities and went to the bars and hung out with their fans.
This is big business, and a ongoing and never ending war between owners and players, and the money isolates players, sure they go see kids in hospitals and open malls and support local charities, money lets them do that. But these players do their best to isolate themselves from the fans. They don't read the papers, or go to message boards, if their name comes up on Sportscenter most of them laugh, realize that the reporters and commentators don't know anything and move on.
They really don't care what the fans think when it comes to making money.
So Oiler fans being mad about Connor getting everything he can. I can state easily and without hesitation that he and his agent don't give a flying fig what the fans think about what he made.
And at the end of the day, when its time to leave Edmonton, he'll leave without thinking about it if its in HIS best interests to leave.
13.25 million a year buys a lot of happiness and insulation.
