Calgary hasn't guaranteed a roster spot to a prospect since Johnny Gaudreau, and that was Hartley himself doing that.

Very similar to Versteeg last year (Edmonton never guaranteed him a spot). Had they have, they would have signed him but in both cases they didn't so both players signed with the Flames.

Versteeg is an established NHL vet who had a fantastic training camp. Not similar.
