Or perhaps he's not in love with Methot (we can assume Ottawa wasn't, or they would have done something to keep him), and he's getting the most he can for him.
Vegas will have 6-8 decent d-men at the end of the day. Dumping Methot won't affect them all that much.
I think Vegas wants to keep and play younger d-men with upside.
Seems like a plausible plan to become a better team.
I don't think he really cares if he can become an 75-80 point team if it doesn't help the team become better over time. Nor should he.
He was given the opportunity of having a number of OK players left unprotected in expansion.
I think he's trying to parlay those OK players into something better eventually.
Guys like Methot are often available in UFA, which you can say about pretty much everyone else on his team.
It's not like Vagas is walking way from good, young up and coming players.
